Meet Mr. Vliek
Hello. My name is Bill Vliek and this fall will mark the beginning of my 7th year in charge of the Springport Band Program. I am a native of Michigan and was born and raised in Portage. I graduated from Portage Northern High School in 2000 and went on to study Music Education at Michigan State University. While at MSU, I played in the Spartan Marching Band, the Spartan Brass (the basketball band), the Concert and Symphonic Bands, as well as the Wind Symphony. Upon my graduation in 2005, I was hired to take over the program in Springport. In the past six years, I have found that Springport is a wonderful community, filled with hard working students and supportive parents. I could not be in a better place. I have recently graduated with my Master of Arts degree in Teaching and Curriculum from Michigan State. While attaining my graduate degree, I focused on educational technology and the acquisition of new tools to improve classroom instruction and student success.
In my spare time, I love to golf, play and watch soccer, read, cook, and spend time with my family. My wife, Emily, and I, are the proud parents of a 17-month-old son, Will, and are expecting our second child this coming October. We never thought hide-n-seek, reading "See Spot Run", or unrolling toilet paper could be so much fun. We are also the proud owners of a 5-year-old white labradoodle named Henry. If you attend enough Springport Band events, you are likely to see the whole family, including Henry. He will be the dog scared of all loud noises, but friendly toward everyone he meets. To see or read more about me, you may view my personal homepage and professional portfolio at www.billvliek.com.
