Weekly Blog Prompts
Below you will find the blog prompts as they are due. In order to successfully complete a blogging assignment, you must complete your post, AND comment on at least one classmate's posting. Refer to "Guidelines for Posting and Responding" to refresh your memory on effective responding.
Sept. 13 - Describe yourself using only song lyrics. You must use at least 5 lyrics from 5 different songs. Keep lyrics school appropriate. Please include both song and artist with each lyric. Remember to comment on a classmate's entry.
Sept. 19 - Take a look at how technology is affecting the way you listen to music. In your life thus far, how have the changes in technology changed the way that you experience music? For example, when I was growing up, you bought music on a cassette tape that wore out. Now, music is digital, whether that be CD or mp3. I know longer have to worry about replacing worn out cassettes. Now I just hope my computer doesn't crash. Remember to comment on a classmate's entry.
Sept. 26 - Music plays a variety of roles to different people in society. What role does music play in yours? How has this changed as you have matured? Step back and take a look at your musical progression. Take into account what you listened to in elementary school....how about middle school....what about now? How has music's role in your life changed in your short experience thus far?
Oct. 3 - The term "rock star" is thrown around a lot to describe people from all different genres of music. Sometimes it's even used to describe people not associated with music. Think about the people you consider to be "rock stars". In no less than 150 words, describe the character traits and abilities needed to become a "rock star". Are these traits learned or is someone born with them? Is it possible to start as a "rock star" and then lose that status?
Oct. 10 - What's in a voice? For this week, you will be required to take the next step in connecting with the outside world via your blog. If you could have any singer's voice, whose would you choose? You may choose two singers. Why did you choose them? What qualities in their voices appeal to you? Men may pick female voices and women may choose male voices if they wish. NEW REQUIREMENT: You must include links to your artists homepages or other audio clips within your blog post.
Oct. 17. - At some point in your life, chances are that someone in an authority position has disliked the music that you listen to. It could be a parent, teacher, pastor, aunt, or other adult in your life. For this week, I want you to explore the reasons behind their dislike for your music. This is going to require a brief amount of work on your part as you must discuss this with the particular adult. For example, if your parents dislike the music you listen to, you are supposed to have a discussion with them and listen to their viewpoints on the music. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and engage yourself in meaningful discussion about music and particular tastes toward certain genres. Your blog posting will then be a culmination of this discussion. You do not need to specifically identify your interview subject in your blog post and it is recommended that you don't.
Oct. 25 - After having read multiple biographies of nominees, your blog entry for this week has two elements. First, select at least four nominees that you believe should be inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame for this coming year. Why do they deserve to be inducted?
Secondly, do you believe that the Hall of Fame handles induction correctly? By this, do you like the fact that they separate nominees into categories or the fact that there is no minimum amount of records sold? If you had to set up criteria for induction, what new criteria would you insert (you must pick at least one).
#8 (December 5)
Tis the season to proclaim what you are thankful for. What music are you thankful for? Why are you thankful for it? Who, thankfully, introduced you to it? Have you introduced anybody else to it? Feel free to make this a cornucopia of different musical tastes and genres.
#9 (January 4)
What role does innovation play in your evaluation of good vs. bad? This can be in any walk of life; sports, music, technology, etc. Should innovation be a criteria for determining whether somebody is great or not great? Why or why not.
